Page Fifty Nine The Dalston Darlings

It's been a very very long time since my last post. I am excited to say, this is my first post as a resident of London England and there are sooo many exciting things I see every day that I want to blog about. In the beginning... The blog was my way of showing that Vancouver has fashionable people and that I happen to know some very stylish girls and guys and I wanted to prove we're not all TNA pants and Ugg boots... dear god. Anyways, recently Vancouver was voted in the top ten least fashionable cities in the world by GQ Magazine. I tried.

Now I'm in London, and with no doubt there is fashion and style being created in every corner of the city. My first day at my job at the hair salon and I found myself three stores down for Stephen Jones' Millinery Shop...I was stunned to say the least. Beautiful creations only to be seen by appointment accept for a few displayed in the window.

So, if you haven't heard of WI (Women's Institute,) it's a British, community-based organisation for women originally formed in 1915 for women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. It is now the largest women’s voluntary organisation in the UK and includes learning about all kinds of things like martini making, hoola hooping and scrap-booking which is what we learned about in my first meeting. Getting to the good part... the girls involved are amazing! They have so much personal style and are adorable London girls with head scarves and hands loaded with rings and lace dresses and long skirts and boots that have been perfectly worn in and red lips and vintage bags. They're magnificent. The meetings take place at a little cafe in East London. They do a wonderful job of having delicious (seriously delicious) cake and tea. Each tea cup is different and mis-matched to saucers and real silver tea spoons make the whole evening feel special. As the cafe is not too far from Christopher Kane's studio, and one of the girl's who leads the group is friends with him (of course) he may be guest speaking at one of the meetings! I'll be sure to have pictures of that, however in the mean time.. please enjoy.
